Jim Hummel has been moderator of Lively (formerly A Lively Experiment) since 2016, and a reporter in Rhode Island for more than 40 years across all mediums. He started his professional career with The Providence Journal in 1982, before moving to ABC6-TV in 1995, where he won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting. In 2009 he founded The Hummel Report, an online nonprofit investigative website. Jim’s career has mirrored the changes in the journalism profession over the past three decades. James learned the basics of audio editing while studying music at Missouri State University. He went on to get a Master of Fine Arts in Electronic Art at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he created electronic music, video art and internet-based media art. While at RPI, James went on the air for the first time, hosting an electronic music show on Rensselaer's station, WRPI, but his love of radio came from staying up late so he could hear punk rock on KKFI, the community radio station in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jeremy leads the newsroom at Ocean State Media, helping the team publish more investigative and accountability journalism that matters to Rhode Island and the Southcoast.

Prior to joining Ocean State Media, Jeremy was the director of collaborative reporting at WAMU in Washington, D.C., and founder of Guns & America, an award-winning national reporting project covering the role of guns in American life.

A thirty-year radio veteran. Experience working as a reporter, producer, anchor, and host. A playful soul who has lived and worked in places like Denver, Colorado, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Miami, Florida. Now, just trying to become a Rhode Islander through and through.

The local voice on Weekend Edition for several years, Joe stepped into the role of morning producer in October 2023. Joe is also a reporter, covering stories in the field and conducting interviews with newsmakers.

Mary-Catherine has over 20 years of financial reporting experience at private and publicly traded organizations. Mary-Catherine is currently responsible for the overall financial strategy and direction of Ocean State Media. Since coming on board in 2018, Mary-Catherine has managed all aspects of financial reporting for both the CPB Community Service Grant, as well as all private, foundation and station-funded grants, collaborating closely with project managers to ensure budgets are developed, tracked and reported accurately. Mary-Catherine also serves as VP and Board member for another local non-profit where she assists the management team in reporting and compliance. Mary-Catherine holds a B.A. from University of Phoenix in Accounting.

Prior to joining OSM as a strategist and interim Chief Revenue Officer in November 2024, Steffon spent 26 years at WBUR, Boston’s largest NPR station, where he generated more than $200 million in philanthropic revenue. As the station’s director of membership and campaign strategy, Steffon successfully reduced the number of on-air fundraising days while increasing station revenue year over year, allowing for more airtime to be devoted to news and programming. Steffon was also part of the team that helped launch WRNI – the precursor to The Public’s Radio – as a WBUR outpost in 1998.

Colleen is a mother to two young girls, a lifelong learner, an educator, and a native Rhode Islander. Each of these identifiers directly impacts her role as Chief Community and Education Officer.

Singer started a newspaper for his neighborhood when he was 10 years old and has been involved in journalism in some fashion ever since. He comes to Ocean State Media from GBH News, where he ran the investigations unit and then launched and managed a new Equity & Justice team. In previous jobs, he was the White House correspondent for the UPI wire service; the Cleveland correspondent for the Associated Press, and the politics editor for USA Today. He has also served as adjunct faculty at Georgetown University and Boston University. In his spare time, Singer does journalism and bangs on typewriters.
