The mansion museum in Providence is known for its lush and well-preserved Victorian interiors, but this tour takes visitors behind the scenes. It took a lot of work to keep a big house humming along in the 1800s, and for this event, you get to see some of the nooks and crannies, the kitchen, and the mechanical systems. The workers are the protagonists in this story about how the whole house functioned.

‘Mill Town Art of Fall River’ at the Narrows Center for the Arts, through Nov. 29

This exhibit features the “interpretive photographic paintings” of Lewis Wickes Hine by Sheila Oliveira. These are photos taken by Hine of the city’s mill workers in the early 20th century, which Oliveira then reimagined as paintings, alongside some images printed as they were initially captured. The other part of the exhibit is a textile-inspired sculpture by James Reitzas, who is a former owner of the Fall River Knitting Mills. Fall River was once the second-largest cotton manufacturing city in the world, so this show is an interesting way to look back on that history through visual and textile art. The gallery is open Thursdays through Saturdays, 12-5 p.m., as well as during concerts and events at the Narrows.
