Looking for some tips on what to do this weekend? We’ve got you covered. Here are a few recommendations from Ocean State Media afternoon host Mareva Lindo and producer James Baumgartner.
‘House at Work: A Behind the Scenes Tour’ at Lippitt House Museum, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.
The mansion museum in Providence is known for its lush and well-preserved Victorian interiors, but this tour takes visitors behind the scenes. It took a lot of work to keep a big house humming along in the 1800s, and for this event, you get to see some of the nooks and crannies, the kitchen, and the mechanical systems. The workers are the protagonists in this story about how the whole house functioned.

‘Mill Town Art of Fall River’ at the Narrows Center for the Arts, through Nov. 29
This exhibit features the “interpretive photographic paintings” of Lewis Wickes Hine by Sheila Oliveira. These are photos taken by Hine of the city’s mill workers in the early 20th century, which Oliveira then reimagined as paintings, alongside some images printed as they were initially captured. The other part of the exhibit is a textile-inspired sculpture by James Reitzas, who is a former owner of the Fall River Knitting Mills. Fall River was once the second-largest cotton manufacturing city in the world, so this show is an interesting way to look back on that history through visual and textile art. The gallery is open Thursdays through Saturdays, 12-5 p.m., as well as during concerts and events at the Narrows.

The 121st Annual ‘Little Pictures Show & Sale’ at the Providence Art Club, through Dec. 22
This features smaller works by local artists – the oldest and largest exhibition of its kind in the United States. More than 120 artists are participating, with over 700 works for sale. It’s a great way to pick up some more affordable works of original art – and an opportunity to drop in and explore the Providence Art Club, which is in a beautiful historic building right across the street from the First Baptist Church in America. The sale is on now, open seven days a week, 12-5 p.m.
