Teatro en el Verano
Rhode Island’s annual bilingual outdoor summer theater series returns with performances of La Broa en tu barrio. The play tells the story of the beginnings of Providence’s Latino community. It’s based on a number of real-life stories gathered over many years by the Nuestras Raíces project, which means “our roots.”
When: Thursday, July 9, 6:30 p.m. (additional performances through Aug. 2)

FirstWorks Summer Beats Concerts
Etienne Charles Gullah Roots opens the series this summer. The internationally renowned jazz trumpet maestro Etienne Charles returns to Providence with his festive big band. High spirits and dancing feet are in the forecast for this free jazz concert inspired by Lowcountry Gullah-Geechee culture and its connections to Afro-Caribbean music traditions.

Wickford Arts Festival
Over 200 local, regional and national artists will be showcasing their work, from prints and paintings, to ceramics, jewelry and more. And in-between perusing their wares you can enjoy live music, food trucks, family activities, and beautiful historic Wickford.

Newport Kite Festival
Professional Kite-flyers from China, Canada and all over the U.S. will perform at this free, family-friendly festival. Past festivals have featured giant inflatable robots, swordfish and a 150-foot dragon kite.

Providence Fringe Festival
Your chance to see a huge variety of theater and performing artists showcasing new works. They call it “fun, fearless and affordable theater.” There are more than 20 different shows you can choose from. Like Cabarestle, a blend of drag, burlesque, live music and pro wrestling. And Got Beef, a live talk show that is everything about beef, the tenderloins and the tender moments between enemies.
