OSM Visits: Tiverton

Tiverton doesn't demand your attention, and that's part of its appeal. People often overlook it in favor of Newport or Bristol, but those of us who live here know it's one of Rhode Island's best-kept secrets. After nearly 10 years as a resident, I've grown to appreciate everything from the back roads and Sakonnet River views to coffees at Coastal Roasters before making the drive to the office in Providence. Tiverton is quiet without feeling isolated — and for my family, it's become exactly what home should feel like.
Your go-to activity in town: We love spending time on, in and around the water. Our favorite place to raft up by boat or hang out on land is the north side of Fogland Beach — it's a protected cove. When the wind picks up, you can watch people windsurfing or kitesurfing.
A place you’d send someone visiting for the first time: Grab a (delicious) coffee at Coastal Roasters then walk down to Grinnell's Beach and out onto the pier for amazing views of the Sakonnet River. I'd also recommend taking a drive down Seapowet Avenue to the beach for even more views. Finish the outing off with a meal at The Boat House to watch the sunset.
A hyper-specific local detail or favorite thing: We have four ice cream shops in a town of 16,000 people. I recommend trying them all!
