The Ghana Men’s National Team has chosen Bryant University as its home base for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghanaian Black Stars plan to use Bryant’s 43,000-square-foot field house and state-of-the-art wellness and athletic center to train for the prestigious tournament, which takes place this summer at several venues across North America, including Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Located in Smithfield, Bryant is less than a half-hour’s drive from Foxborough, where the Black Stars will face England on June 23.

“Being selected as the Base Camp for Team Ghana underscores the caliber of Bryant’s campus, our commitment to excellence, and the intentional investments we’ve made to support high-performing student-athletes,” Bill Smith, vice president for athletics and recreation at Bryant, said in a statement.

Providence mayor Brett Smiley says the Ghanaian team will be staying in the city during the World Cup. He’s hoping the club’s fans and family members will do the same.

“We are committed to being a festive destination for soccer fans from around the world and look forward to announcing our fan experience plans,” said Smiley.

During its stay in Rhode Island, the Ghanaian team is expected to participate in community programming with local youth soccer players. Specific details have yet to be revealed.

Officials in Rhode Island are preparing for hundreds of thousands of visitors during the tournament.

Gillette Stadium, called “Boston Stadium” for the tournament, will host 7 matches, beginning with Haiti vs. Scotland on June 13.

The team from France has reportedly selected Boston as its home base.
