For 35 years, "A Lively Experiment" has provided insight and analysis of the week's local and national political events. Now, newly rebranded and restructured, "Lively" is where Rhode Islanders come together to talk about what’s really going on in our state. Each week, community leaders, local journalists, professors, and past and present local legislators join veteran journalist Jim Hummel for a smart, energetic roundtable discussion that dives into the big issues—and the everyday ones, too.
Jim Hummel has been moderator of Lively (formerly A Lively Experiment) since 2016, and a reporter in Rhode Island for more than 40 years across all mediums. He started his professional career with The Providence Journal in 1982, before moving to ABC6-TV in 1995, where he won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting. In 2009 he founded The Hummel Report, an online nonprofit investigative website. Jim’s career has mirrored the changes in the journalism profession over the past three decades. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in journalism and political science. jhummel@oceanstatemedia.org
