It's important to know that you are not alone. When something tragic like this happens, we're filled with lots of emotions and questions: how could this happen? How do I explain this to my kids? Who can I talk to about my feelings?
Our Education team has compiled a list of resources to help support you as we navigate these current events.
Tips on discussing gun violence with children
- Children are impacted by gun violence even if they haven’t experienced it at school, leaving many parents and caregivers unsure how to talk about these incidents without causing additional trauma. PBS NewsHour explores how parents and caregivers can talk with children about gun violence.
- With children having access to information like never before, it’s very likely they’ve encountered intense news without fully understanding what it all means.
- If you're looking for a guide for parents, caregivers, and teachers on helping children and youth cope after a disaster or traumatic event, with practical resources available in English and Spanish, check outSAMHSA.
